Mumbai runs on work. People here change jobs often, chase promotions, prepare for bank and government exams while working full time, and weigh offers from Bengaluru, Dubai or Toronto. When a job hasn't come for months, or a promotion has slipped twice, it's natural to wonder whether it's you, the company or the timing.
I'm Phoolchand Joshi, an online Vedic astrologer with more than 15 years of reading kundlis for people across Mumbai. Career and job questions are among the first things people ask me about. This page explains what career astrology can show, what I read in your chart, and how a consultation works.
In short
- I read the 10th house and its lord, the 6th and 11th houses, Saturn, the Sun, Mercury and your current dasha.
- It helps with timing a job change, understanding delays, choosing between offers and planning exam preparation.
- It doesn't replace your skills, your CV, interviews or a career counsellor.
- The first conversation is free. A puja, only if you choose one, is ₹501.
What career astrology can show
Career astrology reads your birth chart for work and profession. It can show the kind of work you're naturally suited to, which periods support growth or change, and which periods call for patience. It is most useful for timing: when to push for a move and when to stay and build.
It doesn't replace effort. A chart can say a supportive period is starting. You still have to apply, prepare and show up for the interview.
What I look at in your chart for career
The 10th house: karma and profession
The 10th house is the main house of career, status and public life. Its sign, the planets in it and its lord's placement describe the nature of your work and how you're seen at work.
The 6th house: service and competition
The 6th house is about daily work, service, employment and competition. It's especially important for salaried jobs and for competitive exams.
The 11th and 2nd houses: income
The 11th house shows gains, income and the fulfilment of goals, and the 2nd house relates to savings and family finances. A strong link between the 10th and 11th houses usually supports steady career growth.
Planets and the kind of work they point to
Saturn is the natural significator of work, discipline and long-term results, and its placement often shows the pace of your career. The Sun shows authority and government, and a strong Sun is common in charts of people in government service or leadership. Mercury relates to communication, commerce, analysis and IT. Jupiter relates to teaching, advisory roles, finance and law. Mars relates to engineering, police, defence, real estate and technical work. Venus relates to design, media, hospitality, fashion and the arts.

Career by the sign on your 10th house
The sign on your 10th house adds colour to the kind of work you're suited to. This is a starting point, and the planets involved can change the picture a lot.
| Sign on the 10th house | Often suited to |
|---|---|
| Aries | Leadership, engineering, police, sports, starting new things |
| Taurus | Finance, banking, food, luxury goods, arts |
| Gemini | Media, writing, sales, IT, communication |
| Cancer | Hospitality, healthcare support, real estate, shipping |
| Leo | Government, management, politics, entertainment |
| Virgo | Accounts, analysis, medicine, editing, IT |
| Libra | Law, design, fashion, partnerships, HR |
| Scorpio | Research, insurance, investigation, surgery |
| Sagittarius | Teaching, law, consulting, travel, religion |
| Capricorn | Administration, manufacturing, government, construction |
| Aquarius | Technology, social work, large organisations, science |
| Pisces | Healing, spirituality, arts, film, overseas work |
Mumbai's industries and the chart
Mumbai's work life covers finance and stock markets, film and media, shipping and ports, IT, pharma, retail and trading. I see some patterns often. Strong Mercury and Jupiter are common in finance and trading charts. Venus and Rahu often show up in media, film and advertising. The Moon and water signs often link with shipping, travel and hospitality. These are tendencies, not rules, but they help when someone is choosing between fields.
Common career questions I'm asked
When will I get a job?
If you've been searching for months, I look at the dasha and the transits of Saturn and Jupiter over your 10th and 6th houses. Often there's a clear shift coming in a particular period. I tell you which months look more supportive, and meanwhile what to focus on.
Should I change my job now?
People in Mumbai often have an offer in hand and a doubt in mind. I look at whether your current period supports a change or favours staying. Sometimes the chart says the move is good, and sometimes it says the offer looks better than it is. I'll tell you what I see, and you decide.
Why is my promotion delayed?
Saturn's influence on the 10th house, a weak 10th lord, or a dasha that doesn't activate career can all point to delay. Delay is not denial. Often the result comes, just later than expected.
Government job and competitive exams
Many people preparing for UPSC, MPSC, banking or railway exams ask whether their chart supports a government job. A strong Sun, a well-placed 10th lord and support to the 6th house help. I also look at which periods are better for appearing for the exam. Preparation is still the main factor, and I say so.
Job abroad or a transfer
The 12th and 9th houses, along with Rahu, often show foreign connections. If you're weighing a move to the Gulf, Europe, the US or Canada, I can tell you what the chart suggests about the timing and the experience.
Career choice for students
Parents sometimes ask which stream suits their child. I can describe a child's natural strengths from the chart, but I always suggest combining that with the child's own interest and a proper career counsellor. A chart should open options, not close them.
Dasha and transits for career timing
The Vimshottari dasha is the main timing tool in Vedic astrology. When you are running the period of a planet connected with the 10th house, the 10th lord, or the 11th house, career events tend to happen: new jobs, promotions, transfers.
Transits add detail. Saturn moves through a sign in about two and a half years, and its movement over your 10th house, or its aspect on it, often brings responsibility and change at work. Jupiter, which spends about a year in each sign, often brings opportunity where it transits or aspects. Reading the dasha and transits together gives the clearest picture of timing.
Signs that a job change period is starting
- the start of a dasha connected with the 10th house or its lord,
- Jupiter's transit over the 10th house or aspecting it,
- Saturn leaving a long stay over the 10th or 6th house,
- Rahu's transit over the 10th, which often brings sudden or unusual opportunities.
When these line up, opportunities tend to appear. That's the time to update your CV and reach out.
Sade Sati and career
Many people are scared when they hear they're in Sade Sati. For career, Sade Sati often brings hard work, extra responsibility and slower recognition. It can also be the period where you build real skills and a reputation that lasts. I explain what it means in your specific chart and how to handle it, without fear.
Handling a difficult boss or office politics
A surprising number of career calls are not about getting a new job but about surviving the current one: a manager who never gives credit, colleagues who take over projects, or a team that doesn't listen. The chart often shows why. A weak or afflicted Sun can make it harder to be noticed by authority. Saturn on the 10th house can bring heavy responsibility without recognition. Mars in the 6th house can bring conflicts with colleagues.
Knowing which period you're in helps you choose how to respond. In some periods it's wiser to keep your head down, document your work and wait. In others, it's the right time to ask for a transfer, speak to HR or look outside. I'll tell you what the timing suggests, and you decide based on your situation.

Salary hike and appraisal timing
Many people ask whether their appraisal will go well this year. I look at the 11th house (gains) and the 2nd house (earnings), along with Jupiter's transit and the current antardasha. Sometimes the chart supports a raise in the current cycle, and sometimes it suggests the bigger jump will come with a job change. I'll share what I see so you can plan your conversation with your manager, or your job search.
Career breaks and returning to work
Many people, very often women, take a break for children, family or health and then want to return. A common worry is whether it's too late. I look at the dasha for when work becomes active again and suggest periods that support a return. In my experience, the chart often shows that a career break was a pause, not an ending.
Freelancers, consultants and gig work
More people in Mumbai now work independently. For freelancers, I read the 7th house (clients and contracts) along with the 10th, and the 3rd house (self-effort). Periods that support new clients can be very different from periods that support a stable job, so the timing advice changes too.
Retirement and second careers
People in their fifties often ask what comes after their main career: consulting, teaching, a small business, or spiritual work. The 9th and 12th houses and the later dashas help answer this. I've spoken with many people who found that their second career suited their chart better than the first.
Remedies for career problems
Most remedies I suggest are simple. A mantra for the planet that needs strengthening, often Saturn or the Sun for career. Practices that suit Saturn, like punctuality and service. Practical advice, such as updating your CV in a supportive period or timing a conversation with your manager. A puja only if it makes sense; the fee is ₹501, told in advance, and it's optional.
I don't recommend expensive gemstones by default. A gemstone is a strong remedy and is considered only after a careful look at the full chart.
How a career consultation works
- Send a WhatsApp message with your date, time and place of birth.
- Add your question: job change, promotion, exam, abroad, or career choice.
- The first conversation is free.
- I read your chart for career and timing.
- We talk on phone or video, in Hindi, Gujarati or English, and you leave with a clear view of the coming months.

Why career astrology online works for Mumbai professionals
Your workday in Mumbai probably starts on a local train or in traffic and ends late. You don't have time to visit anyone. I'm available 24x7, so you can message after office or on a Sunday morning. I speak with people working in Nariman Point, BKC, Lower Parel, Andheri, Powai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, and with Mumbaikars working abroad.

The 10th house is the main house of career. The 6th house (service), 11th house (gains) and 2nd house (earnings) add to it.
Can astrology tell me when I will get a job?
It can show which periods look more supportive, based on your dasha and transits. Effort and preparation still decide the result.
Can astrology help with government job exams?
It can show whether the chart supports government service and which periods are better for exams. Preparation remains the main factor.
Is Sade Sati bad for career?
Not necessarily. It often brings hard work and responsibility, and for many people it builds a stronger career.

Only after a careful look at the full chart, if at all. Most of the remedies I give are mantras and practices that cost nothing.
How much does a career consultation cost?
The first conversation is free. If a puja is suggested, it costs ₹501, and it is always your choice.
