Mumbai is a city of business. Some of it happens on Dalal Street and in BKC. Much more of it happens in a 200-square-foot shop in Ghatkopar, a trading office in Masjid Bunder, a small factory unit in Bhiwandi, or on a laptop in a Powai flat. In every one of these, the owner faces the same questions: start now or wait, expand or hold, sign with this partner or not.
I'm Phoolchand Joshi, an online Vedic astrologer with over 15 years of experience. Many of the families I work with run businesses, often across generations, and business timing comes up often. This page explains how I read a chart for business, what business astrology can and cannot do, and how a consultation works.
Please read this first
- Business astrology is guidance on timing, not financial advice. Keep your CA, financial adviser and lawyer involved in every decision.
- I read the 7th, 10th, 11th and 2nd houses, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and your current dasha.
- It helps with timing a launch or expansion, partnership questions, difficult periods, and office or shop Vastu.
- The first conversation is free. A puja, only if you choose one, is ₹501.
What business astrology can show
Business astrology reads the owner's birth chart, and sometimes the partners' charts, to understand your nature as a business person, the timing of the coming years, and how well two partners fit. Some charts are built for trading and quick decisions. Others suit slow, steady growth, and some do best working alone.
It cannot tell you which stock to buy, guarantee profit, or replace a business plan. If anyone promises that, walk away.
What I look at in your chart for business
The 7th house: partners and trade
The 7th house isn't only about marriage. It also rules business partnerships, contracts and dealings with the public. In business charts it's one of the most important houses.
The 10th house: profession and reputation
The 10th house shows your status and how your work is seen. Its link with the 7th and 11th houses helps judge whether business or a job suits you better.
The 11th, 2nd and 8th houses: money
The 11th house shows income and profit. The 2nd house relates to accumulated wealth and capital. The 8th house relates to sudden gains or losses, loans and other people's money.
Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn
Mercury is the planet of trade, commerce, calculation and communication, and it's central for traders and anyone in sales. Jupiter relates to expansion, finance and good judgment. Saturn relates to long-term effort, labour, manufacturing and patience, and its placement often shows how fast or slow a business grows.
Which kind of business suits your chart?
The planets that are strong in your chart often point towards certain kinds of business. These are tendencies, not rules.
| Strong planet | Business often suited to |
|---|---|
| Sun | Government contracts, leadership roles, pharma, gold |
| Moon | Food, dairy, hospitality, travel, liquids, shipping |
| Mars | Real estate, construction, engineering, machinery, security |
| Mercury | Trading, retail, IT, communication, accounts, publishing |
| Jupiter | Finance, education, consulting, law, religious goods |
| Venus | Fashion, jewellery, cosmetics, film, hospitality, interiors |
| Saturn | Manufacturing, labour-intensive work, oil, iron, logistics |
| Rahu | Technology, import-export, foreign trade, new-age businesses |

Business questions I'm asked most
Should I start my own business or stay in a job?
I look at the 10th and 7th houses, the strength of Mercury and Saturn, and the current dasha. Some people are well suited to running their own business. Others do better leading inside an organisation, or starting a business later in a more supportive period. I'll tell you what your chart shows.
When should I launch or expand?
I look at your dasha and the transits of Jupiter and Saturn to find periods that are more supportive. Many families also choose a muhurat for an opening. For a shop opening or office inauguration, I can suggest a few supportive dates around your practical plans, like lease start, stock arrival and festival season. The final date is your choice.
Why is my business going through losses?
Often the chart shows a difficult period, for example a Saturn or Rahu sub-period, or a transit over the 11th or 2nd house. I explain what kind of period it is and how long it's likely to last, and suggest practical caution. Losses also have real causes, like pricing, competition or market changes, and those need a CA's eye.
Should I take a big loan?
I can tell you whether the period looks supportive or risky. The decision itself should be made with your CA, based on numbers.
Business partnerships: what I compare in two charts
Partnerships cause more business trouble than almost anything else. When two people want to start or run a business together, I compare their charts, with both partners' consent. It's a bit like kundli matching, but focused on trust, money and decisions:
- The 7th house in each chart, which shows how each person behaves in partnerships and contracts.
- Mercury in both charts. Two very different Mercuries often argue over accounts.
- Jupiter, which supports fair dealing and good judgment when it's well placed.
- Saturn and Mars. One partner with a strong Saturn and one with a restless Mars can make a good team, if they understand each other's pace.
- The dashas both partners will run over the next few years. If one partner enters a difficult period just as the business needs to expand, it's better to know early.
I then tell both partners, plainly, where friction is likely and how to divide responsibilities to reduce it. The partner with the stronger Mercury may be better placed to handle accounts and suppliers, for example, while the one with the stronger Sun handles clients. Please still put everything in writing with a lawyer.
Family businesses in Mumbai
Many businesses in Mumbai are family-run: a father and two sons, brothers in partnership, or a business passing to the next generation. Questions come up around succession, dividing responsibilities, or one family member wanting to branch out. Reading the relevant family members' charts, with their consent, can help everyone see where each person's strengths lie. It often makes the conversation at home calmer.
Startups and founders
Mumbai's startup scene, from Powai to Lower Parel, brings a different kind of question: when to raise money, when to hire, whether a co-founder fits. I read the founder's chart for timing and partnership compatibility. Astrology is no substitute for a good product, customers and sound financial advice. What it can add is a sense of which periods support bold moves and which call for building quietly.
Business in a difficult period
Some indicators suggest caution: a dasha of a planet that rules the 6th, 8th or 12th house in your chart, Saturn or Rahu transiting the 11th or 2nd house in a difficult way, or a period when your 7th lord is afflicted, which can bring partnership disputes.
In such periods I usually suggest:
- protect cash flow before chasing growth,
- delay large loans and new partnerships until the period shifts,
- put every agreement in writing, even with relatives,
- look after existing customers, who carry a business through slow times,
- review costs with your CA rather than cutting blindly,
- keep a simple daily practice, like a mantra, that helps you stay calm when decisions are hard.
None of this is magic. It's what steady business owners in Mumbai have always done in tough years. The chart simply tells you when to be extra careful, and these periods do pass.
Vastu for your shop or office
Along with your chart, the layout of your workplace matters. For shops and offices in Mumbai, I usually look at where the owner sits and which way they face, where the cash counter or locker is, whether the entrance is clean and bright, and whether there are dark or cluttered corners. Most changes are simple and cost nothing. For more, see my page on Vastu consultant in Mumbai.

Moving or opening a new shop or office
Many Mumbai businesses shift premises every few years when leases end or rents rise. Before you sign a new lease, it helps to look at two things together: the timing in your chart and the layout of the new place. Send me the floor plans and photos of the options you're considering, along with your birth details. I'll tell you which one looks better from a Vastu and timing point of view, and you can weigh that with rent, location and footfall.
Chopda pujan and Diwali
Many Gujarati and Marwari business families in Mumbai follow the tradition of Chopda pujan at Diwali, worshipping the new account books for the year. Families often ask me what the tradition means and how to observe it simply at home or at the shop. I'm happy to explain. The date and time each year follow the panchang.
Remedies for business problems
The remedies I suggest are practical: a mantra for Mercury, Jupiter or the planet that needs support, advice on when to hold and when to push, and small Vastu changes at the shop or office. A puja is suggested only if it makes sense, for example before an opening. The fee is ₹501, told before anything is done, and it's always your choice.
I don't promise that any remedy will bring profit. What remedies can do is support your effort and help you stay steady through a difficult period.
How a business consultation works
- Send a WhatsApp message with your date, time and place of birth. Add your partners' details only if they have agreed.
- Describe your situation: new business, expansion, partnership, losses, or a timing question.
- The first conversation is free.
- I read the chart, or charts, for business and timing.
- We talk in Hindi, Gujarati or English, and you get a clear view of the coming months.

Why business owners in Mumbai consult me online
Business owners in Mumbai don't have time to sit in someone's waiting room. Many message me after closing the shop at night, or early in the morning before the market opens. I'm available 24x7. I speak with traders, shop owners, founders and family businesses from Kalbadevi, Dadar, Ghatkopar, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, Thane, Vashi and Bhiwandi, as well as Indian business families abroad.
