Marriage astrology is probably the most common reason Mumbai families reach out to me. Rishtas come and go, a cousin younger than you got married last year, relatives have started making comments about late marriage, and somebody has mentioned Manglik dosh. By the time a parent or the person themselves sends me a WhatsApp message, there's usually a lot of worry and very little clarity.
I'm Phoolchand Joshi, an online Vedic astrologer for Mumbai with more than 15 years of reading kundlis. Astrology came to me from my father, who is also my guru. On this page I explain how I read a chart for marriage, what usually causes delay in marriage according to Jyotish, how I handle Manglik dosh, and what a marriage consultation with me looks like.
In short
- What I read: the 7th house and its lord, Venus, Jupiter, the Moon, and the dasha you are running.
- Common causes of delay: a weak or afflicted 7th house, Saturn's influence, a dasha that doesn't activate marriage, or simply timing.
- What you get: an honest view of timing and practical steps, not fear.
- Cost: first conversation free. A puja, only if you choose one, is ₹501.
How a kundli is read for marriage
In Vedic astrology, marriage is read from several points in the birth chart together. No single factor decides it.
The 7th house
The 7th house is the house of marriage and partnership. I look at which sign it holds, which planets sit in it, which planets aspect it, and where its lord is placed. A strong, well-supported 7th house usually points to marriage happening without too much struggle. An afflicted 7th house can point to delay, or to a need for more care in choosing a partner.
Venus and Jupiter
Venus is the natural significator of marriage and relationships, especially in a man's chart. Jupiter is traditionally read for the husband in a woman's chart, and for blessings and growth in general. Their strength and placement add a lot to the picture.
The Moon and the Navamsa
The Moon shows the emotional side of a person and is central to kundli matching. The Navamsa chart (D9), a divisional chart, is read specifically for marriage and the spouse. I always check it along with the main chart.
The dasha
Timing in Vedic astrology comes mainly from the Vimshottari dasha, the system of planetary periods that runs across a 120-year cycle. A person usually marries during the period or sub-period of a planet connected with the 7th house, Venus or the Navamsa. If your current dasha doesn't connect with marriage, the chart may simply be saying "not yet".

Why marriage gets delayed, according to astrology
When someone asks me about delay in marriage, these are the patterns I look for:
- Saturn's influence on the 7th house or its lord. Saturn tends to delay rather than deny. People with Saturn here often marry a little later, and often more steadily.
- An afflicted 7th lord. For example placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th house, or combust.
- Rahu or Ketu on the 1st/7th axis. This can bring unusual circumstances or uncertainty around marriage.
- Strong Manglik dosh. Mars in certain houses can make families hesitate, even when the dosh is actually cancelled.
- The dasha. Sometimes nothing in the chart is wrong. The supportive period simply hasn't started.
There are also very real non-astrological reasons in Mumbai: long working hours, rent and housing pressure, higher education, career moves, and families searching only within a narrow circle. I talk about those too, because a chart is read for a real person living a real life.
Signs that a supportive period for marriage is coming
When I read a chart for marriage timing, these are some of the signals I look for:
- The dasha or antardasha of the 7th lord, or of a planet placed in the 7th house.
- Venus periods, especially for men, and Jupiter periods, especially for women.
- Jupiter transiting over the 7th house, the 7th lord, or aspecting the Moon or Venus.
- Saturn's transit releasing pressure from the 7th house after a long stay.
- A link between the dasha lord and the Navamsa chart.
When two or three of these come together, marriage often becomes more likely. When none of them is active, even a lot of effort may not lead to a wedding in that period, and it can help to know that so you can be patient.
Manglik dosh and marriage
If you have been told you are Manglik, please don't panic. Mars in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house is common, and in many charts the dosh is mild or cancelled. Classical rules cancel it in several cases: Mars in its own or exalted sign, Jupiter's aspect, certain ascendants, and when both partners are Manglik.
I have seen too many people, especially girls, made to feel that something is wrong with them because of Mars. It isn't true. I check how strong the dosh really is, explain it plainly, and if needed suggest simple remedies like specific mantras. A puja is optional and the fee is ₹501. Nobody needs an expensive ritual pushed on them out of fear.
Mangal dosh remedies that don't need fear
If a chart has a strong, uncancelled Manglik dosh, there are traditional remedies that are simple and peaceful:
- Hanuman Chalisa recited daily, or on Tuesdays.
- A specific Mars mantra for a fixed number of days.
- Fasting on Tuesdays, if the person is comfortable with it.
- Charity linked to Mars, such as donating red lentils.
These are optional, and they cost nothing. Most importantly, a Manglik person can choose a partner with a matching chart, which in classical rules balances the dosh.
When will I get married?
This is the question I hear most, and I answer it carefully. I can tell you which periods in the coming years look more supportive for marriage, based on your dasha and the transits of Jupiter and Saturn. Jupiter takes roughly a year to move through a sign and Saturn about two and a half years, and their movement over your 7th house or its lord is something I watch.
What I won't do is promise a date. Anyone who guarantees your marriage in 21 days or 3 months is selling something. Astrology shows windows of time. Who you meet and what you decide in those windows is still up to you and your family.
Late marriage in Mumbai: what's normal now
Many people in Mumbai now marry in their early or mid-thirties. That's often because of study, career, housing costs and simply wanting to be ready. It is not automatically a dosh. When parents ask me about late marriage, part of my job is to separate what the chart shows from what is just the pace of city life.
If the chart shows Saturn's influence on the 7th house, a later marriage is often a steadier one. I've seen many people who married later and were glad they waited.
What parents can do
Parents usually carry the most worry. A few things I suggest to them:
- Include your son or daughter in the consultation. It's their life and their chart.
- Don't share the kundli widely on every matrimonial group. Share it when a rishta looks serious.
- Widen the search a little. Many rishtas don't happen simply because the circle is small.
- Don't let one word, like "Manglik", decide everything. Get the full chart read.
- Keep the home peaceful. Pressure at home rarely brings a rishta faster.
Arranged marriage or love marriage: what the chart shows
People often ask whether their chart shows a love marriage or an arranged marriage. A link between the 5th house (romance) and the 7th house (marriage), or between their lords, often points to a love marriage. A strong 9th house influence often shows the family playing a big role. Many charts show both: two people meet on their own, and the families then come together. I'll tell you what your chart suggests, but your own choices matter more than any combination. If you are already in a relationship, see my page on love and relationship astrology in Mumbai.
Second marriage and remarriage
I also speak with people who are divorced or widowed and thinking about marrying again. These conversations need care. I look at the chart for the signs of a second partnership and the dasha timing, and I keep the conversation private. Your birth details and what we discuss stay between us.
Marriage astrology for couples already married
Some calls are from couples already married who are going through a difficult phase: frequent fights, distance, pressure from in-laws, or a crisis after a job loss in the family. I read both charts if both people agree, explain what period they are running, and suggest practical steps.
If there is any violence or you feel unsafe, please treat that as a safety issue first, not an astrological one. Call the Women Helpline on 181, or 112 in an emergency. For counselling support, Tele-MANAS is available free on 14416.

Remedies for delay in marriage
The remedies I suggest are mostly simple and cost nothing:
- Mantra: a specific mantra connected to the planet that needs support, done daily for a fixed period.
- Fasting or prayer: for example on a particular weekday, if the person is comfortable with it.
- Practical steps: widening the search, being open about expectations, and talking honestly within the family.
- Puja: only when it makes sense, always optional, and always ₹501, told before anything is done.
I don't sell gemstones by default. A gemstone is a strong remedy and is suggested only after a careful look at the full chart, if at all.
How a marriage consultation works
- Send a WhatsApp message with your date, time and place of birth, and one line about your situation.
- The first conversation is free. Tell me as much or as little as you're comfortable with.
- I read your kundli for marriage: 7th house, Venus, Jupiter, Navamsa and dasha.
- We talk on the phone or video in Hindi, Gujarati or English.
- You get clarity on timing and a short list of practical steps.
If a rishta is already being discussed, we can move straight to kundli matching once both families agree to share details.
Why Mumbai families choose an online marriage astrologer
In Mumbai, getting the whole family into one room is often harder than finding the right astrologer. Parents may be in Ghatkopar, the son in Pune and a sister in Dubai. Online, everyone can join the same call. I take calls from Borivali, Malad, Andheri, Dadar, Chembur, Mulund, Thane, Vashi, Kharghar and further, and from families abroad. I'm available 24x7, including late nights.
Frequently asked questions
Can astrology tell why my marriage is delayed?
It can often point to the factors in your chart and the period you are running. It can also show when a more supportive period starts. It cannot replace the practical side of finding a partner.
What is the main house for marriage in a kundli?
The 7th house. I also read Venus, Jupiter, the Moon and the Navamsa chart, along with the current dasha.
Does Manglik dosh delay marriage?
Sometimes it makes families hesitate, but the dosh itself is often mild or cancelled. I check how strong it is before drawing any conclusion.
Can you tell me the exact date of my marriage?
No honest astrologer should promise an exact date. I can show which periods look more supportive.
Do I have to do a puja for an early marriage?
No. Most remedies I give are mantras and simple practices that cost nothing. A puja is optional and costs ₹501.
Can parents consult on behalf of their son or daughter?
Yes, many do. I'd suggest including the son or daughter in the conversation when possible, since it's their life.
